art/life and blah blah blah

Life has been very different for me since December. So art and crafts are my escape. Creating something is so satisfying. I am not in the age range of some of you......I am a great grandmother, all be it, a young g-gmother! I refuse to 'grow up'. When I visit my husband in the care center I take my 'busy bag' with me. In it is knitting and my favorite magazines, Somerset Studio and Somerset LIFE. I was privileged to have two collage projects published in Somerset Studio magazines Jan/Feb issue this year!
Currently I am working on a project to send in for their call for art for the color Aubergine.....
An interesting color. The word is actually a word for Egg Plant and is that dark, dark purple color. It was a lot of fun looking at paint samples. Nothing there called 'egg plant' but they did have very dark purple, and a lot of dark, wonderful colors of paint samples that I also brought home. They are represented in 1 1/2 inch circles going up the side of the collage with the word 'Aubergine' one letter on each circle.
I also did a 3-D collage to represent my present circumstances, and an assignment in our art class to pick a word then make a painting or collage around that word. The word that I picked was "Disconnect". Not having my husband at home any more feels very much like a disconnect.
Presently that work and one of the works that was published in Somerset Studio are at the Glendale Community College in their display cases. They wish to display them for a year.
I will be flying up to Portland, OR next week to attend my youngest son's graduation from college. It has taken him a lot of years to get this degree. He is not as young any more. He is 40 this year. I know, many of you will say, 40 is not old!!! I agree, and from where I am in my life story, almost.........well, let's just say, too close to 70 to breath freely!!!! But I still refuse to grow up.
The biggest joy in my life right now is a 10 month old grandson, Haven. He is the light of everything, my angel. My husband also gets a lot of joy out of seeing him. I have painted two paintings (watercolor) of Haven and his mommy that I will be submitting to the Arizona Breastfeeding Coalition celebration and if they are accepted they will be hung in a gallery in Tucson. AZ. I will put some of these art projects on my blog when I get good photos of them.
I love keeping busy. I can always find things to do. One thing that is consuming me and my older daughter is sorting and hauling things away, and getting things ready in the house and yard to put the place on the market. I have to downsize and I know that the economy is not in a good place.......but the whole thing is placed into God's hands. He will work things out for me.

I enjoy good music, my little grandson, Bible study, having all the kids here and cooking a big meal, going to my son's house in New Mexico, having my sister visit or me visit her, going up to the Navajo reservation to my Navajo sister's house. We remodeled her bathroom over a year ago. Trips into the red sandstone canyon behind my Navajo sister's. A place that our family camped and hiked in for 30 or more years. Our parents were missionaries to the Navajo people for over 45 years. I love going out to eat. I don't have a favorite just a favorite at each restaurant! I love to shop, that helps me wind down and relax. I love our church family.
I enjoy my friends. I love the watercolor art class that I have attended (and this is not to my shame) for over 20 years. Same class, same teacher and I am not the only one that continues to attend the same class. It is my social outlet and the group of chronic students are my 'sisters' or like the ya ya girls!!!
Well, until next time.......
